Wexford Mini Break - Part One
Welcome to today's blog where you will be brought away with us on our Wexford mini break. While the weather good we decided to go for away for a few days. I will always say this - Ireland is a beautiful country and has some exceptional scenery and great tourist attractions when we get good weather, which thankfully we had for the entire trip.
Our Accommodation for Our Wexford Mini Break
We stayed at the lovely Brandon House Hotel, in New Ross, an ideal location for a County Wexford holiday. Our room was spacious and comfortable. We had a lovely stay. The food was fantastic, and the staff were very accommodating. A huge thank you to the all staff at Brandon House Hotel.
The Dunbrody Famine Ship
After a leisurely drive down taking the more scenic back roads, we visited the popular tourist attraction The Dunbrody Famine Ship in New Ross, where we learned about the experience of the Irish people during the famine years of 1845 to 1852. We also learned about their experience onboard the ship as they emigrated to North America to try for better life.
It was nice to arrive at the hotel in the evening, we were quite tired after travelling all day. We had a fabulous dinner and then relaxed outside for a while with a glass of complimentary Prosecco.
The Second Day of Our Wexford Mini Break
After a good night's sleep, we went down to an exquisite breakfast from the expansive buffet, then we were ready to go and explore again.
Johnstown Castle Estate
Off we went to Johnstown Castle Estate, with its castle tour, museum, gardens and café, we knew that we would be able to spend many hours there exploring. And we weren't disappointed.
After a guided tour of the castle with a very knowledgeable and humorous guide, we wandered around the museum, laughing at how some of the things we saw were familiar to us from our youth and how time flies by.
The gardens and walled garden were lovely to visit, with beautiful plants and we spent hours wandering around.
Wexford Town
Afterwards we walked around Wexford town and visited some shops including a few thrift/charity shops/second-hand stores. I adore going into these kind of stores, especially in towns that we visit, you never know what you're going to find. Indeed, I had a lucky find, a little linen jacket to go with my summer wardrobe - I was delighted!
With lots of walking around all day we had gained quite an appetite and we were lucky to find the Piri Piri Restaurant in Wexford town, where we enjoyed a tasty meal. They cater well for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores, so it worked out very well for us!
We had a lovely day, and we were glad to get back to the hotel to rest and get ready for the next day to continue our Wexford staycation.
